CC4 - Unit 2

Explain the levels of Affective domain as suggested by Krathwohl with appropriate example

Comments

  1. We, on a daily basis are involved in different situations or scenarios and we all deal with these situations differently depending on the kind of people we are. Some people handle the situation emotionally while some handle it mentally. When people deal with things mentally then that becomes their domain. Domain is the area where a person is good at, interested in or qualifies in.
Krathwohl, Bloom and Masia in 1973 introduced a model called Affective Domain. Affective Domain includes all the components that is used when one deals with things or situation emotionally such as feelings, appreciation, encouragements, belongingness, joy, attitudes, etc. The model is divided into five categories:
    (I) Receiving
    (II) Responding
    (III) Valuing
    (IV) Organisations
    (V) Characterisation

  2. 1) Receiving
It is the lowest level of domain. It is awareness of feelings and emotions.without this level no learning can occur. It involves passively paying attention and being aware of the certain existence. For example pay attention to the lecture carefully then only we can understand what is their in the lesson.

  3. 2. Responding
Is were should start interacting in the class making the class more interesting responding is were should give the answer of the questions. For example after knowing the lesson the the interaction and some question answer start in the class.

  4. Valuing: The worth or value a person attaches to a particular object, phenomenon, or behavior. This ranges from simple acceptance to the more complex state of commitment. Valuing is based on the internalization of a set of specified values, while clues to these values are expressed in the learner’s overt behavior and are often identifiable.

  5. Organisation :
Organization is the fourth stage of Krathwohl’s taxonomy and involves relating the new value to those one already holds and bringing it into a harmonious and internally consistent philosophy.
Organizes values into priorities by contrasting different values, resolving conflicts between them, and creating an unique value system. The emphasis is on comparing, relating, and synthesizing values.
Examples are: to discuss, to theorize, to formulate, to balance, to examine.

  6. Characterization of value: At this level, the child organizes already existing values in the internal system and then modifies their own behaviour or attitude. They reconcile their internal conflicts, integrate values and make a system of their own values.

  7. The affective domain refers to the tracking of growth in feelings or emotional areas throughout the learning experience. In order to be most effective, learning objectives labelled using this domain need a very clear instructional intention for growth in this area specified in the learning objective. Thus, there is significant value in realizing the potential to increase student learning by tapping into the affective domain.
