According to the story one characteristic of language that is highlighted is that LANGUAGE IS VOCAL. The mother initially used to talk a lot and pronounce several words to improve or teach the child words in Korean language which proves the point. Also, the mother used to read out stories and talked a lot with the kid so that she learns the language.
It is also stated in the story that the mother used to understand several things even though she never spoke, cried, giggled, smiled, etc. This point shows that language is Symbolic. Language necessarily doesn't require to consist of words or sentences it can contain certain expressions and feelings which are intangible.

One characteristics of language that I got to understand is that language consists of Alphabets and Symbols. As Sonia's mother taught her to hold pencil,write alphabets.
Yes, at the initial stage of Sonia's life her mother would talk and read a lot to her and through that she began to imitate certain things, actions, voices, etc. Later as she was growing her mother taught her to pronounce different words with the use of pictures.
According to story the characteristics of language is vocal .The mother had took efforts by telling them stories and making the children to read the books which can be improved.Learning language makes easy to communicate with each other with proper pronouciation. In this story the mother had taken much effort to improve the language of children.
Story is based on how the child learn with her mother very perfectly and childs first teacher is always mother because first mother only teach all the things to the child and by seeing her mother they learn some new things that mother do.
Communication need not be always verbal it can be non verbal as well. As a child comes to know her mother's joy in her eyes. Eyes always speaks alot, according to the story.
